“Dagagu” is a Korean term that describes a dwelling to accommodate multiple households; with separate kitchens, bathrooms, and entrances for each of them. To help alleviate the burden of high living costs – especially for the younger generation – the Korean government implemented a series of programs that include replacing single-family homes with these multi-household rental dwellings.
This fast-growing housing segment offers unique opportunities for Canadian wood products and wood-building systems. In partnership with architect Seung Hee Kang of Studio NOVA, Canada Wood constructed a Dagagu house demonstration that delivers healthy, energy-efficient, Super-E® performance paired with improved structural stability from MidPly Shearwall and Wood Wall Bracing systems in order to protect the residents from earthquakes.
